Karen Nitkin

Karen Nitkin has been a professional writer for more than 35 years, and is well known for her endless compassion and curiosity. She loves to get to know people, and to help them tell their stories.

She is a staff writer for Johns Hopkins Medicine, and contributes to publications including the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun and Baltimore Fishbowl, where she originated the Baltimost feature, highlighting interesting local people.

She has written several books, including Fun with the Family in Maryland and Leading the Change: Johns Hopkins Medicine from 2012 to 2022.

Karen is an avid runner and hiker who loves to spend time outdoors with friends and family.

David Nitkin

David Nitkin is an accomplished writer and communications pro who has worked at the highest levels of the mid-Atlantic’s top government entities, news organizations and institutions. 

After many years at the Baltimore Sun, where his high-profile roles included White House and State House correspondent, he held policy and communications jobs for Howard County Government, the Maryland Attorney General, and the Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center.

He is now principal of his own thriving strategic communications business, New Line Strategy.

David loves to run, ski, hike and golf. He’s one of the most interesting and outgoing people you’ll meet.


Mark Miller

Mark Miller’s powerful storytelling has received national honors from many organizations, including the American Bar Association, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, and the Radio Television Digital News Association.  

After more than 20 years of leading WBAL Radio to news dominance in the Baltimore market, he moved to government communications in Howard County. Mark is a stellar photographer and the county’s primary videographer, producing hundreds of community profiles, mini-documentaries and informational messages.

Mark is the adoptive parent of a Chinese daughter, a gregarious and generous friend to many, and an avid guitar collector.  His favorite quote, from 60 Minutes creator Don Hewitt, is simply “Tell me a story…”
